Boulder River

from Miles and Means
(also on Echoes and Reunion)

This is the place where I am most wanted
Where everything I am comes from
I brought you here so that you might notice
The light in my eyes like the afternoon sun

And down by the river we'll talk about fishing
And how all of our dreams are the same
Deep in the valley where the Boulder River
Moves through the mountains like the blood through my veins

And we'll walk along the bank with each other
In the morning when the fish start to rise
Would you like to stay here with me forever?
Can you see how the love is strong in my eyes?

It's strong as the mountains high above us
And high as the clouds in the sky
Deep in the valley where the Boulder River
Flows through the mountains and rolls on by

Now I sit and listen to the river talking
It's telling stories that I've learned to love so well
But there's things in my life that I have regretted
And now that you're gone, things I'd love to tell

But if you should ever change your direction
Know that I'll never be far
I'll be deep in the valley where the Boulder River
Cuts through the mountains like a knife through my heart

Every spring I watch the seeds in the air
From the cottonwood trees on the banks of the river
Some find their way to a home in the ground
Some never seem to find anywhere

To those in the earth, may they never stop growing
And those in the air, may they fly free
I'll be deep in the valley where the Boulder River
Is waiting for you to fly back to me
